Salvesen Steps

Salvesen Steps under essential repairs
The Salvesen Steps, which were deemed unsafe and closed on 20th January, were opened again to the public on 27th June.

Although the Council had quickly agreed to replace the condemned structure with a temporary replacement, implementation took much longer than originally estimated, due to a series of delays with contractors, weather conditions and other factors. This resulted in the Steps being closed for several months with considerable inconvenience to regular users and visitors alike.

However, the good news is that we can all now use the Steps again and the Walkway is fully open.

It is important to also note that the newly opened Steps are a temporary structure, pending a permanent disability-compliant replacement around the rock-face. Work on this solution continues to make (slow) progress and we will continue to monitor it and report back.
